The purpose of a knowledge repository is not only to record information and facilitate finding them like Google. More importantly, it is to grow our knowledge, build capacity and develop talents, both for teams and individuals.
This K Hub System is designed and built based on the BYOS practice, which is a method of system building using world-class enterprise grade open-source technology.
This is a web-based technology, like most many other systems, which is already very feature-rich, reliable and well adopted technology. Even though the same technology can be used to build websites, but that's not the purpose of this knowledge repository system. The advantage of using a well accepted technology is that it is already well developed and is reliable. The main purpose of a knowledge repository is:
- Through technology, we employ this system as our tools for knowledge repository.
- We can use the system to record data, information and knowledge, however;
- More importantly use it to help us build our capacity, grow our knowledge and talent
- Not only for the individuals, but also for teams.
Why a knowledge repository can help us to achieve these? Because:
- it provides the digital space to allow us to organize our knowledge
- which requires a very flexible presentation format and structure
- while organizing our knowledge, we will start to think what and how it make sense
When you organize your knowledge, you will start to go into structure, classifications, workflows, and map to your real life situations.
So it is not the system that make things work. It is you organizing the knowledge that matters and make sense of everything. The system provides the necessary structures, formats and flexibilities that you will need in due course.
You will also find that, when things start to organize, it is also a matter of matching the visible structure of content in the system to the invisible structure in your brain.
The result is, you'll find you understand more, better and deeper, big pictures and details, and perhaps also discover even a lot more. You'll become more powerful and talented, and that is capacity building.
A good knowledge repository will support you to go through these, and that's why and how the features in this system are designed. It is much more than a website, even though it looks like a website. The system is just a start in your journey, but of course requires your effort and practice. At the end, it's the journey that you enjoy which might become your life-changer.
You'll need some learning how to make use of the features to create your own structure, presentation and formats. That's what will be covered in the basic and advanced workshop on content creation.
Going further to the next milestone, you'll find that you need customization, and that's normal. We'll support you at a surprisingly low cost. The good news is, the system is built using opening source. The technology is free, and customization is fast and easy compared with traditional IT systems.
The Technology
This system is built based on the BYOS practice. People without IT background can still learn how to build systems using open-source technology. For those who are really interested in acquiring the technology can feel free to talk to us. We offer hands-on practical training BYOS workshops.
